Graham McPhail is a long-standing member of Restoration and has been at the forefront of historical performance practice in New Zealand since his return from study in Holland with Sigiswald Kuijken in the 1980s.  He was a founding member of Extempore, one of New Zealand's first ensembles devoted to early music performance and he has worked extensively with other early music players in New Zealand. In 2004, along with Helen Brinkman, he formed NZ Barok, New Zealand’s large baroque ensemble based in Auckland.  He has been an artistic director of NZ Barok during its 20 years of concerts, broadcasts, and CD recordings. Graham has taught many of New Zealand’s current generation of baroque string players, including Miranda Hutton, Lara Hall, and Amelia Giles, and he is an Associate Professor in music education at the University of Auckland.
