Eric Scholes completed a Bachelor of Music in double bass performance at the University of Auckland with John Harrison, Michael Steer and Evgeny Lanchtchikov, before moving to the USA where he obtained a Graduate Performance Diploma at the Peabody Institute in Baltimore with Ira Gold. There he also took lessons in bass viol and violone with John Moran and performed regularly with the Baltimore Baroque Band. Eric has participated in several summer festival academies including Akademie für Alte Musik Bruneck, Italy, the Tafelmusik Baroque Summer School and Winter Institute in Toronto and the Amsterdam Early Music Summer School. Eric freelances as a double bassist and electric bassist playing many styles of music. He performs regularly with the Auckland Chamber Orchestra, the Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and has recently toured with the psyche-jazz group Carnivorous Plant Society. Eric has been a core member of NZ Barok since 2014, and has performed with the orchestra as soloist in the Dittersdorf double bass concerto no. 2. His first appearance as a member of Restoration is in 2021.
